A Stronger Workplace Starts With Stronger Laws

Workers deserve fair pay, time to care for themselves and their families, a meaningful voice on the job, and the ability to hold employers accountable when their rights are violated.

The Stand Up For Workers Action Fund advocates for policies that strengthen these basic protections and create equity at work. We support legislation that puts workers’ economic security, dignity, and ability to seek justice at the center of our labor laws.

From raising the minimum wage to protecting the right to organize, expanding paid leave, and ensuring workers can pursue discrimination claims, these priorities address some of the most consequential gaps in our current system.

What We’re Fighting For

Raise the Minimum Wage

A full day’s work should result in a decent living. The federal minimum wage has remained at $7.25 an hour since 2009 as the cost of everyday necessities has continued to rise. We advocate for the passage of the Raise the Wage Act or similar legislation that raises the federal minimum wage and strengthens workers’ economic security. The current bill proposes phased increases to the federal minimum wage. (congress.gov/bill/119th-congress/senate-bill/1332)

Make Healthcare More Affordable

Trump’s Big Ugly Bill has caused and will cause millions of Americans to lose their health-care insurance. Congress should enact the Health Care Affordability Act, the Medicare for All Act, or similar legislation to deal with this affordability crisis. (congress.gov/bill/119th-congress/house-bill/247)

Protect the Right to Organize

Workers should have a meaningful voice at work. The ability to organize and bargain collectively is fundamental to workers’ rights. We support the passage of the PRO Act and stronger federal protections for workers exercising their right to organize and bargain collectively. (congress.gov/bill/119th-congress/house-bill/20)

Guarantee Paid Family Leave

No one should have to choose between a paycheck and caring for a loved one. Workers may need time away from work to welcome a new child, care for a family member, or manage a serious health condition. The FAMILY Act would establish a national paid family and medical leave program so workers can take that time without being forced to choose between their families and their financial security. (congress.gov/bill/119th-congress/house-bill/5390)

Guarantee Paid Sick Leave

Workers should be able to take time off when they are sick without putting their income at risk. Paid sick leave also helps workers care for children and family members, and reduces the pressure to come to work when they are ill, putting others at risk. We're advocating for the passage of the Healthy Families Act, which would establish paid sick leave protections for workers who need time to care for themselves or family members. H.R. 7531 was introduced in February 2026 and referred to committee. (congress.gov/bill/119th-congress/house-bill/7531)

Strengthen Workplace Discrimination Remedies

Workers who experience discrimination deserve access to justice. Federal law places caps on compensatory and punitive damages in certain employment discrimination and disability discrimination cases. Those limits have remained unchanged for decades, even as the workplace and the cost of living have changed. We’re advocating for legislation such as the Equal Remedies Act that would remove artificial limits on damages and strengthen workers’ ability to seek meaningful remedies when their rights have been violated. (congress.gov/bill/119th-congress/house-bill/9116)

End Forced Arbitration in Employment Disputes

Workers deserve the option to have their day in court. Many workers are required to sign agreements that send employment disputes to private arbitration instead of allowing them to pursue their claims in court. The FAIR Act would prohibit employers from requiring workers to arbitrate employment disputes while preserving the ability of employers and unions to use arbitration when they mutually agree to it. H.R. 5350 was introduced in 2025 and referred to the House Judiciary Committee. (congress.gov/bill/119th-congress/house-bill/5350)

Ensure Equal Pay for Equal Work

Workers should be paid fairly for the work they do. The Paycheck Fairness Act would strengthen protections against sex-based wage discrimination, limit the circumstances in which pay differences can be justified, and protect workers who share information about their wages. The legislation also addresses employers’ use of salary history and restrictions on workers discussing wages. (congress.gov/bill/119th-congress/senate-bill/1115)

Better Protections for Agricultural & Domestic Workers

No worker should be left out of basic workplace protections. Agricultural and domestic workers have historically been excluded from important federal labor protections, including overtime provisions. These workers deserve the same fundamental protections afforded to workers in other industries. The Fairness for Farm Workers Act, introduced in September 2026, would expand federal overtime protections for agricultural workers. The Domestic Workers Bill of Rights Act would strengthen rights and protections for domestic employees. (congress.gov/bill/119th-congress/house-bill/10273)
